Then illustrator Darren Whittington brought the whole thing to life, illustrating how organisations could make their relationships with customers work on the move.

He not only created charming Gif animations and illustrations, Darren also came up with a new brand marque, a distinctive font and new and very human brand language which humanised a data-driven offering at synapta.co.uk. Now, mobile engagement platforms are, quite literally, where it’s at.

The basic idea was to bring the line in their logo to life illustrating the interesting and exciting jobs taking Science and Maths can lead young people to.

There’s also a very lovely website that this ad is driving traffic to that is well worth a look to see how engaging you can make Science and Maths to a younger audience.

The Big Draw

The Big Draw is the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. It has grown into a month-long festival throughout October all over the UK. Every year more people across the world join Big Draw events and engage in creative activities.

Big Draw, Big Make kicks off the 2012 Big Draw festival at the V&A on 30 September. Free pop-up studios and workshops, led by some of the UK’s top artists and designers, allow visitors of all ages to become illustrators, architects, fashion or product designers for the day.

Darren says: "All was simple until you have to get the silhouette to look like the athlete in question and create a pose that will fit within the packaging guides for the can and the constant graphic of the stripes always fixed in one location. I love a challenge."

Originally from Germany, Kat now lives in London where she graduated with a Diploma in Art and Design from Camberwell before recently gaining a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Illustration at the London College of Fashion.

While there, the Body Shop challenged students to come up with a look for their Brush With Fashion project, for their 2011 Spring/Summer Make Up. The judges selected Kat’s and her work was the star not just of product packaging, but the theme of the catwalk show.

Kat has also started making a name for herself with other collaborations: Company Magazine, Vogue Russia, Maria Luisa Paris, Nine West and Roger Vivier.

We call the work our artists do in partnership with product designers and interior decorators ‘Applied Illustration’ and Kat is passionate about the genre: "I love the interplay between art and design in luxury and bespoke as well as mass marketed goods. With fashion, furniture, kitchenware, technology, cosmetics, drinks… illustration can enhance the end result."

Kat’s self-professed obsession with shape and texture and her use of intense colour are only parts of what makes her work so distinctive. Combining found imagery with drawing and printing, her experimental style goes beyond multi-media and she’s relishing all challenges from creatives – whether in advertising and marketing, communications, publishing or product design.

The campaign, which aims to raise £1m for ChildLine, will see 85 artboxes in the shape of the landmark red telephone boxes dotted across London, each in its own unique design created by artists and designers.

Lizzie added: "In a non-stop round-the-clock Draw Marathon, I’m going to cover a BT Artbox with illustrations of ‘What makes London, London!’"

First Direct aims to raise a further £10,000 during the campaign by donation matching when someone donates at: www.nspcc.org.uk

Lizzie Mary Cullen has previously (successfully) undertaken such marathon illustration challenges as the Pendurance Challenge, Illustrating 50 London locations in 24hrs! and more recently Draw My Story.

Lizzie Mary Cullen shows the public an example of her plans for First Direct's BT Artbox.

First Direct handpicked Lizzie for this project, saying that Lizzie was an: "Illustrator and all round creative person", and "An award-winning London artist who has made a big name for herself in a short time."

A 2008 graduate of Goldsmiths college, Lizzie Mary Cullen has already exhibited internationally in London, New York and Paris and been profiled by The Independent, BBC London and WIRED. In 2011 she was named one of the Hot 50 people making a difference in design by Design Week Magazine.

When asked about the project she said:

"24 hour challenge… bring it on! This is such a cool project and for an amazing cause. The only thing I’m slightly concerned about is being mauled by London’s population of urban foxes at 4 in the morning, but I’m sure me and my trusty pens can fight em off."
