Gerry Baptist
My childhood in India significantly influenced my life; as well as being surrounded by the sounds, colours and energy of the sub-continent, I was living in a home that was full of all kinds of stuff- a chaos of books, magazines and comics, musical instruments of all types, pictures, cameras and masses of drawing materials.
After art school I spent some years as an art director in advertising working in England and Germany. With partners, I founded the ad agency Yellowhammer which was renowned for its creativity.
Some of my recent images are from a series I called The Waste-Makers, some from a series based on the opera Salome and some loosely based on The Rake’s Progress.
The work is mainly digital collage, drawn on a Mac or using scanned drawing or my painting with other images from my collection. There are etchings too.
